This Privacy Policy explains how OpenElse Agent ("we", "us", "our") handles data when you use our website and browser extension. Our core principle: a local-first architecture, so your data stays with you and never touches our servers.
1. Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following to OpenElse servers: your API keys, your conversations, your browsing history, your personal data, analytics or tracking data, IP addresses, or cookies. OpenElse adopts a local-first architecture — the website and extension run core interactions directly in your browser, and your data stays under your control.
2. Local Storage
The following data is stored locally in your browser's localStorage: your AI provider configuration (provider name, model, endpoint), your API key (encrypted with AES-256 via Web Crypto API), your chat history, theme and language preferences, and sidebar state. All of this data can be cleared at any time via your browser settings or the in-app "Clear all data" button.
3. Third-Party AI Services
When you send a message, it is sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you configured (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google). OpenElse does not act as an intermediary — the connection is between your browser and the AI provider. Your use of these services is subject to their respective privacy policies and terms of service.
4. Data Security
Your API key is encrypted using AES-256-GCM with a key derived via PBKDF2 (100,000 iterations) and stored in localStorage. However, no browser-based storage is fully secure. Browser extensions or malicious scripts running on the same origin could theoretically access localStorage. We recommend using a dedicated API key with limited quota and rotating it periodically.
5. Your Rights
You have full control over your data. To delete all data: open Settings → click "Clear all data", or clear your browser's site data. Under the local-first architecture, all data lives in your browser — clearing it here is all it takes.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
